STANDARD TAKE ON THE MACAU GP!

Standard Engineering has had a long and fruitful relationship with local Kettering motorcycle racer James McBride.  He has competed all over the world at such events as Daytona, Macau GP and British Superbikes.

James recently announced his own team’s retirement from racing, but was tempted back to ride for DMR at Macau in November.  DMR are a well-established racing team who have competed at the Macau GP and in BSB races for some years.  They have a seasoned team of technicians and know how to set up a bike or two!  For this event the team will be running two BMW S1000RR Machines with James and Jimmy Storrar, a super-fast Scot as his teammate.

We were keen to help out once again, up to and including on this special occasion the temporary loan of Managing Director Keith Malyon to James’s crew.  They left on Sunday 11 November, their trip lasting 8-days.  Macau, known as the gambling centre of the Asian world as a hotbed for casinos and fast cars for China’s elite businessmen and politicians.

Keith will assist with such vital activities as paying for drinks, telling jokes, buying food, maintaining his appearance, and keeping James fully supplied with excellent company!

James told us, “Keith will be a great asset in the pit.  His keen enthusiasm, eye for detail and willingness to go the extra mile will be incredibly helpful to us.”

An unnamed spokesman from Standard said, “We never underestimate the benefits of getting Keith out of the office for a week!”

James managed a 12th place finish, from 12th place on the starting grid, from a field of 30, becoming the 4th highest placed rider in Super Stock.  All despite only having only two hours with the bike prior to racing!

Keith managed 12 doubles at the bar in one sitting.
