CYCLE TO RECYCLE

At 6.00AM on Monday 8th September 2008 you may spot a couple of rather seedy individuals sat on bicycles at the turn-off to Rockingham Castle, just outside Corby.

We desperately ask that you might resist your natural first instinct at seeing such obvious villains loitering at the side of the road, and calling the local constabulary.  These men, Keith Wilson and Will Yarrow, are actually taking part in the National Shoe Repairer’s “Cycle to Recycle” sponsored cycle on behalf of Standard Engineering.

The event will be staged to raise awareness of shoe repairing with twin teams cycling from Aberdeen to Portsmouth down both the eastern and western sides of the country.  Felicity Kendall is backing the event and has donated a pair of shoes to be taken on the journey and repaired at the final destination.

Keith and Will have volunteered to takeover from cyclists from the previous leg (between just north of Melton Mowbray to Rockingham) of the nationwide journey and continue the unbroken cycling chain from the top of the hill at Rockingham (anyone familiar with the area will appreciate the sense of this) to Rushden.

The finish at Rushden is presently being kept secret from Keith as, being a supporter of Kettering Town Football Club (the premier team in Northamptonshire), he would rather eat his own feet than willingly enter the home of the most evil, unworthy football club in the whole of Christendom.

This stage of the journey actually takes our riders past three senior football grounds in Northamptonshire.  Firstly there is the athletics stadium where Corby Town “play” football.  Secondly, they will pass the blessed citadel of wonderment otherwise known as the home of Kettering Town Football Club.  Thirdly, and lastly, they will be within spitting distance of the home of the cursed Rushden & Diamonds.

If you pass Keith and Will on the A6003 and A6 in your car on that Monday please give them a toot of support and try your best not to run them over!

If you would like to sponsor Keith and Will’s efforts, or join in with Keith’s attempts to abolish the Diamonds, please feel free to contact us.
